Milford House dates back to the early settlement of this area in the 1860s. It was established by Abraham Thomas as a stopping place for travellers, and was known variously as "Halfway House", "Thomas Hotel" and later "Milford House". From the 1880s through the early part of the 1900s it drew tourists and sportsmen who came in spring for the abundant trout fishing through till the late fall for moose hunting.
